An introduction to pumping liquids. Using a feed drum and a set of two pumps which can be run singly, in parallel or used for procedural changeover. This model can be used develop an understanding of the principles involved with pumping a liquid. The model includes a cascade level control loop on the feed drum as well as a minimum flow protection loop for the pumps. The set of assignments contained within the model this system can also be used to plot the pump characteristic curve.
The system forward flow control valve position is set by the cascaded controller FIC202 to maintain a level in the vessel, and the spillback line flow is set by minimum flow controller FIC201 on the pump outlet line. The system allows a fundamental introduction to basic pump control, spillback, and pump characteristics.
The model may be used for whole class teaching, or for trainees to use individually.
The model includes User Guide, Assignments, and a comprehensive Trend Charts facility.
The graphic is a screen shot with the 'Trend Chart' tab selected. The Trend Chart shows the effect of a sudden drop in feed (this may be caused for example by closing the inlet valve to 20% as shown).
